Drawing August

Well what a wonderful month it has been, weather and family time plus plenty of drawing... infact a lot of drawing. Since doing the 'daily sketch' I have also got involved with #drawingaugust on twitter thanks to my friend Haidee.

The amount of other work other people have submitted on twitter has been fantastic and awe-inspiring. So much so that other artists are now thinking of doing #paintseptember

Lunchtime Sketch

Well I am back from my camping holiday with the family and back to work with various things.

The 'Daily Sketch' is still on going and todays sketch was a timed 15 min effort. The sketching is making me think more about what I want to draw for each day. So before I could eat any of my lunch I made myself do this sketch of the memorial in West Bridgford, Nottingham.

Fantasy work

Recently I was approached to produce some illustrations and designs for a fantasy rule book.
It's the first time I have delved into this sort of work, but I am very excited about it and I have a lot of work to do.

All the work has to be completed in the next couple of months. Here is a snippet of one of the characters I am currently working on.
You can see more of my work on here or on my Facebook page. :}>

Camping!

Really enjoying our family holiday away in Sutton on Sea.

The weather is being very kind to us and I am balancing working and enjoying the holiday with the family. So Todays 'Daily Sketch' is of our camping stove.. well my brothers actually.

Lets say more of a communal cooker. Though this drawing project I am doing everyday for a year, I am also linking it with the twitter project #drawingaugust .

Wind Farms

He is another quick sketch of some Wind Farms in Lincolnshire as part of my 'Daily Sketch'.

The beauty about drawing in ink is the limitations of application. You have to make decisions on how you are going to make a mark to represent what you want to see.

I find it very similar to watercolour as the white space becomes the drawing tool rather than the pen.

Holidays!

Well I am in the middle of a lovely holiday away with my family in the wonderful East Coast of Britain that is Sutton on Sea. Unfortunately It is also a working holiday for me too, as I have a lot of work to do which I am not complaining about.

In the meantime I am continuing with my little project 'The Daily Sketch' which I am really enjoying, mainly because I am at least producing something everyday and forcing myself to find the time and find subject matter that normally we would just take for granted.

A friend of mine Haidee (a fellow artist) pointed me in the right direction of something else going off on Twitter called #drawingaugust and people are taking part in sketching and posting on twitter! great fun!

The Daily Sketch

Everyday for the next year I will attempt to do at least one sketch a day. There are days that I am very busy with other things, so the challenge is to find the time, even if it's for 10-15mins.

I have done monthly sketches in the past, but I think approaching it in this way will produce more and keep me on my toes. You will be able to view all my drawing on Pinterest or Facebook
